Bakery Position Summary:

Selland’s Market Café is in search of an individual who has a passion for the art of baking and pastries.  The ideal candidate will have previous knowledge, experience and training in breads and pastries.  The ideal candidates will also have excellent social skills, be highly motivated and feel comfortable working in a fast paced environment that requires multi-tasking and focus. The ideal candidates also must be very reliable, highly organized, creative, dependable and responsible.

As a member of the Selland’s team, it is the baker/decorator’s primary responsibility to prepare from scratch cakes, cookies, pies, leavened breads, rolls and more.  The baker will consistently prepare high quality products by following recipes, maintaining a clean work environment, and will be able to work at a fast pace while producing a quality product.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with baking breads and pastries in a professional setting
  • Culinary school with a focus on pastries is preferred
  • Must be able to begin work at 2 am on weekends and 4 am on weekdays
  • Able to stand for the entire shift
  • Able and willing to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Knowledge and understanding of tools, measurements, ingredients, equipment, small wares and cooking required for a bakery
  • Ability to prepare products according to recipe guidelines
  • Knowledge and understanding of kitchen safety and sanitation including temperature requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Requirements

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mix product correctly and accurately to ensure quality and consistency
  • Bake and decorate product correctly and accurately to minimize waste
  • Store all product appropriately; label, date and initial
  • Fill out inventory sheet daily and initial.  Inform manager when product is low and needs to be made
  • Maintain product par on your station at all times
  • Load vans efficiently as soon as vans arrive
  • Keep your area clean at all times
  • Keep any area you have been working at clean at all times
  • Reports to work on time and as assigned per the schedule on a regular, consistent basis
  • Any other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics:                               

  • Able to communicate verbally in an articulate manner
  • Has integrity and honesty

  • Demonstrates active listening and is receptive to ideas
  • Processes and analyzes information effectively
  • Can organize, plan, and prioritize
  • Must have valid California Food Handler card
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (or have valid work permit)
  • Must have reliable transportation to work
  • Must be able to obtain proper uniform, including black non-slip shoes 
  • Must have proof to legally work in the United States

Essential Physical & Mental Functions:

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and customers in person and on the phone
  • Ability to read, count and write to accurately complete orders
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground, including mats and steps, freely accessing all areas of the store including the counter/register area, restaurant floor, stock area, and the kitchen
  • Ability to operate and use kitchen equipment and appliances necessary to run the restaurant
  • Ability to be exposed to extremes in water temperature, humidity and wetness
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
  • Ability to move or handle product generally weighing 0-50 pounds
